Discover the mechanical music differently
Each year, on the third weekend of September,the Mechanical Music Museum of Les Gets takes part in the European Heritage Days,an unmissable cultural event celebrating the richness of France’s and Europe’s heritage.
Created in 1984these days aim to give as many people as possible the opportunity to discover historic sites, traditional skills, and exceptional collections,some of which are only accessible during this special event.
An original way to discover the museum
For European Heritage Days,the museum offers special guided tours into the fascinating world of mechanical music.
Visitors can discover:
- les Mechanical organs and barrel organs,
- les Music boxes and automatic pianos,
- les Orchestrions and rare instruments,
- The behind-the-scenes work involved in the manufacture and restoration of instruments,
- A rich collection of paintings, sculptures or others historical objects, illustrating the contexts in which mechanical music instruments were once used.
These tours provide an immersive journey into the history of these remarkable machines, able of reproducing music without musicians,true masterpieces of mechanical ingenuity and craftsmanship.
A new theme every year
Each edition of the European Heritage Days, is organised around a national theme,selected by the French Ministry of Culture.
The Mechanical Music Museum then adapts its tours and activities to offer visitors an original perspective on its collectionsin connection with that annual theme.
This provides a unique opportunity to rediscover the museum from a fresh perspectivethrough special presentations and exclusive moments dedicated to musical heritage..
Opening hours and ticket prices
Installed under a protective shelter on the Village Square,the carousel welcomes visitors of all ages during both the winter and summer tourist seasons..
